Job Summary
The Poultry Farm Veterinarian is responsible for ensuring the health and productivity of the farm’s poultry population. This includes disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and advising on best practices in poultry health management. The veterinarian will work closely with farm managers, supervisors, and workers to maintain high biosecurity and optimize flock performance.
Key Responsibilities
1. Animal Health Management
Conduct routine flock health assessments and inspections.
Diagnose diseases or health issues and prescribe appropriate treatments.
Oversee vaccination programs and develop immunization schedules.
Monitor mortality, morbidity, and performance indicators to detect early signs of health problems.
2. Biosecurity & Hygiene
Develop, implement, and enforce biosecurity protocols.
Train staff on biosecurity, sanitation, and disease-prevention practices.
Inspect facilities regularly to ensure compliance with hygiene standards.
3. Disease Prevention & Control
Implement disease surveillance programs.
Coordinate laboratory testing and interpret diagnostic results.
Formulate disease-control strategies and contingency plans during outbreaks.
4. Nutrition & Management Support
Collaborate with nutritionists to optimize feeding programs.
Evaluate housing, ventilation, and environmental conditions to improve bird welfare and productivity.
5. Record Keeping & Reporting
Maintain detailed medical and production records.
Produce regular reports on flock health, treatment plans, and performance trends.
Ensure compliance with government regulations and animal welfare standards.
6. Staff Training & Advisory
Train farm workers on poultry handling, vaccination, and early detection of disease.
Provide expert guidance to management on improving flock performance and farm profitability.
